BSP Masterplanning was engaged to prepare an indicative masterplan for the regeneration of the Parsonage Way area in Leigh.
The masterplan proposals aim to create over 1,500 new jobs and to provide a Linear Park that would transform the existing brook into an attractive natural feature for the local community. The process included holding a public exhibition which established extensive support for the proposals.
Consideration was given to existing movement patterns in the area and pedestrian desire lines which informed the creation of a new movement framework that encouraged walking and cycling as well accommodating the needs of motorists.
The regeneration strategy incorporated the provision of a new link road forming a 'Gateway' into Leigh Town Centre and reducing traffic along Wigan Road. The proposed employment led development scheme contained a range of community uses including a medical centre, day nursery, retirement village together with residential development to meet local need.
