The site forms part of the South Prescot Action Area and was formerly used as a cables works. BSP Masterplanning has been responsible for securing a number of planning permissions over recent years for extensive residential development contained within a wider mixed use setting.
While the development site itself had very few natural features or assets the appraisal highlighted the visual prominence of the St Mary’s Church spire on the wooded skyline. This informed the arrangement of streets and squares to create a series of views and vistas to the church.
The new residential neighbourhood comprises three distinct development areas. The main family housing area (420 units) which incorporated a ‘pocket park’. A compact four storey apartment scheme creating a ‘square’ next to the railway station (100 units) and a seven storey landmark apartment scheme (70 units) located at the ‘gateway’ to the Prescot town centre.
The four storey apartment scheme is currently under construction and close to completion. Work has also commenced on the construction of the initial phases of the family housing area. Planning permission for the landmark apartment scheme was granted in December 2007.
